About Us

The South Campus Neighbourhood Coalition (SCNC), initiated in September 2010, is supported by formal resolution of community leagues from Aspen Gardens/Westbrook, Belgravia, Grandview, Lansdowne, Lendrum, Malmo, McKernan, and Parkallen.

The coalition formed initially because the process through which the University of Alberta was planning and developing the South Campus had lost credibility.  Adherence to the processes outlined in the existing Long Range Development Plan (2002) and governing legislation was not apparent. The consultation, decisions, developments and disclosure processes that had eventuated since 2002 had fractured the relationship with the communities. Legal action brought by the SCNC against the University regarding one such development process prompted negotiations between the two parties and resulted in the acceptance of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU – July, 2012).  As part of the MOU, the two parties agreed to work together through the South Campus Consultation Group to work on implementation of the MOU principles and the review, updating and amendment for the LRDP (2002).

Our Vision

We seek to actively contribute to the evolution of fully liveable communities in the greater south campus area supported by genuine partnerships with the University and the City of Edmonton

Our Goals

1. The SCNC understands and represents the desires of its member communities.

2. Fully liveable communities are developed through coordinated planning between the city and university, broadly supported by communities and other stakeholders.

3. A visionary U of A South Campus development benefits communities, the city and our province.
